Community worship can mean different things to different people. For one group of Harford County churches “community worship” means joining other congregations to witness to our greater unity in Jesus Christ. Ebenezer, William Watters, Centre, Deer Creek, Jarrettsville, Ayers Chapel, and Mt. Tabor churches have started to see ourselves as part of Christ’s bigger vision for mission and ministry in our community.
Once each quarter during the year, our seven churches (and we’re always hoping for more!!) meet for a combined worship and potluck lunch. We hear from each other’s preachers; we sing with each other’s musicians; and we share in Holy Communion around the Lord’s Table. In the summer we meet at The Grove at William Watters, an outdoor worship space that has been a gathering place for Christians for generations. In cooler months we move indoors.
As we have started to worship together, we have also been exploring ways of working with each other beyond Sunday mornings: homeless shelters, prayer meetings, youth group, and outreach to the wider community. We strongly believe that our congregations, our neighborhoods, and Christ’s church thrive when we see each other as partners, not competitors.
Be on the lookout for our next Community Worship Service, which is always just around the corner. Join us as we strive to be transformed disciples of Jesus Christ!
